feature snapshop student!

Brittney! As posted previously, Brittney and Steve attended the very first Boise SNAPshops this past summer.

Not only did she really get into the class and seem to have a lot of fun, she really got some amazing shots…with her little point & shoot. I think these alone prove that you don’t need an expensive camera to take fabulous photos!

Then just a few weeks ago, she posted on Facebook and album full of amazing photos taken on a family get-away. Again, these were taken with her point & shoot camera and she gave me permission to copy and post them. I am super impressed!

1st downtown boise snapshop…a success!

Earlier this summer I ran the first Boise Snapshops! It was a gorgeous evening and so much fun! What a great group! The thing that I love about photography workshops is it forces one to slow down and really enjoy photography. Anything goes. We met at Bardenay and began our workshop directly across the street with this bike. Before we knew it 10 minutes had passed by with us all engaged in photographing interesting details on just this small corner of the street.

This is Brenda’s photo of the bike.

And here’s Brittney’s. Same bike, two totally different perspectives.

Next, a street sign, where the class learned key lighting techniques on how to get your object perfectly lit with the sun glaring behind.

Mark demonstrates getting creative with angles. Why not lie down to get the perfect shot and a unique angle?

Married couple, Steve and Brittney. He brought their DSLR and she brought the point & shoot. I love it!

My photo of Mark, photographing Brittney, photographing the flag.

Here’s her shot. Pretty dang sweet!!!

We finally made our way to the Capital Building and ended the class as the sun was setting. I have to admit, though, I didn’t want to go.

st. chapelle dslr workshop

Last May, I conducted a DSLR workshop at St. Chapelle Winery for a group of women from Mt. Home AFB. With all of the travelling they do and moving and fun times with their family and friends, the all wanted to learn more about their cameras and how to take better photos. In the SLR (single lens reflux) workshops I work towards really imparting a working knowledge of how to operate the camera outside of the automatic settings. I taught them how to shoot on aperture priority and some basic rules of composition. Then we just had fun on the vineyard. We took a tour of the winery and even did some wine tasting.

Here are some of their shots! I was super impressed with their work and creativity!

My class! What an awesome group of really fantastic women! So fun!!!

having fun with my new point & shoot

Well, it is actually my son’s Canon S-90 that we bought him for his 10th birthday. Up until now all of my photos have been taken on my SLR. I love my Canon 5D MarkII…LOVE IT! But, it is big and conspicuous, hard to haul around…and expensive. I constantly worry I am going to drop that thing! My father-in-law was in town and we took a tour of the Old Penitentiary in downtown Boise. If you haven’t gone, go. It is so interesting and a photographer’s dream. There are so many interesting patterns and textures! When I finally pried the camera out of my son’s hands, I had a chance to play around and took these shots. I will be posting soon some of his photos…he has been having a blast with his new camera! But for now…this is about me:-).

The macro feature on these little point and shoots is awesome! The S-90 takes much better close-ups than my 5D with my 24-70 lens.
